Varsities should solve problems - KWASU VC

Date: 2013-05-30

Vice-Chancellor, Kwara State University, Prof. Abdulrasheed Na'Allah, has said Nigerian universities have not contributed enough to solving the nation's developmental problems.

The universities, he said, should generate ideas that would address national problems and impact positively on the society.

He spoke on Tuesday during the university pre-convocation press briefing in Malete.

Noting that the country had abundant human and material resources, he urged Nigerians to contribute to solving the country's problems.

He said, "The problems are there for all of us: individuals, universities, government and other stakeholders.

"Universities are not meant to just sit down.  They are meant to impact the society positively and transform it.  But how much have we done. How much has the university system done to make a difference in Nigeria?"

Na'Allah said the university had established Malete Film Village and was working with two companies in China and the United States to develop a  solar-panel manufacturing company.

He  also urged universities to produce graduates who would be job creators and employers of labour.
