NLC Advocates Intelligence Gathering to Curb Insecurity

Date: 2013-05-15

Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Issa Aremu, has stressed the need to improve on intelligence gathering in order to address the growing insecurity in country.

Aremu said President Goodluck Jonathan should ensure that security forces lay more emphasis on intelligence and crime prevention.

He spoke in an interview with journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday during a capacity building and skill development workshop for National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers.

Aremu urged Jonathan to organise his thoughts and the people around him to refocus Nigeria.

He said, “We have to advise President Jonathan that rather than agonising, he has to organise himself. We must organise our security forces so that they lay more emphasis on intelligence. Prevention is better than cure. President should organise his security forces and not to just agonise. He must also organise his government to make sure that the resources of Nigeria are channeled to save the complete fall of the citizens.

“Rather than building unity and consensus for nation building, some of them are even undermining the President. President Jonathan has pan-Nigerian mandate. He must remain the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
