A 35-year old vigilante, Mr. Kolawole Olasunkanmi has been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrate Court for allegedly possessing illegal firearms.

Olasunkanmi who appeared on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms ran into trouble on April 15 and was arrested with a Mazda 323 with registration number AFN 594 XA by one Corporal Efoghe Unity attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Offa.

Investigation revealed that when a search was conducted on him, 78 live cartridges, three small pots and some criminal charms were allegedly recovered from him.

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter, during investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, the accused confessed that one Ali Ajikobi who is the coordinator of Harms Security Guards Limited was the one that led them to the site of one Doctor Dada at Ipee, Kwara State.

Police said that the offences committed by the accused contradict Sections 97 of Penal Code Law and 27 (1) (B) of Firearms, (Special Provision) Act Cap R28, Law of the Federation of Nigeria.

The prosecutor, Constable Elijah Abegunde objected to the bail of the accused. He prayed the court to remand him in prison custody, Ilorin, pending the outcome of the police investigation.

The defense counsel, Barrister Adekunle Atolagbe prayed the court to admit the accused to bail pending the police investigation, submitting that the accused was a first offender and that he would not jump bail.

Magistrate I.A Dasuki upheld the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin till May 13 for further mention.
