ASUU Assures UNILORIN of Strike-Free Academic Calendar

Date: 2013-04-23

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ilorin chapter, has said that it was determined to sustain the uninterrupted academic calendar and strike- free institution which the university is reputed for in more than 10 decades.

The pledge was contained in a statement issued in Ilorin and signed by ASUU chairman, Prof. Abdulwahab Egbewole and Secretary General, Dr. Patrick Belogun, to congratulate the appointment of new governing council of the institution by President Goodluck Jonathan being led by Prof. Chukwumah Okonjo.

The union, which said it had ensured an uninterrupted academic calendar and strike-free institution for more than 10 years, attributed it to the cooperation and unity of purpose amongst the members of the unions on campus.

It described the appointment of the new governing council as “a laudable one” in view of the track records of the members of the council and the chairman.

The statement said: “As a union, our mantra is unionism for development and we have kept faith with it. We sincerely hope that this position would be further strengthened within the period of your service as chairman and Pro-Chancellor of this university.”
