'Transporters Contribute N140m Annually to Kwara IGR'

Date: 2013-04-17

Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Kwara State contribute about N140 million annually to the government internally generated revenue (IGR), the union’s chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Isa Ore, has said.

Speaking when he and other members of the newly elected executive paid a courtesy call on the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, Ore said with a membership strength of 41,922, the union was the second largest employer of labour after the state government.

He said the union has zero tolerance for thuggery and all forms of violence and pledged that its members would not do anything that could disrupt the peace in the state.

The governor called on trade and labour unions to partner government for the attainment of economic growth in the country, saying a virile union like NURTW must play critical roles in national development as it requires collective effort to achieve the desired objectives.
