House urges FG to Rehabilitate Ohan Bridge
By Zarumi Mashood
The Kwara State House of Assembly has urged the Federal Government to find a permanent solution to the perennial damages to Ohan and Moro bridges in Asa Local Government Area of the state.
The plea was part of the House’s resolutions on a matter of urgent general public importance raised at yesterday’s proceeding by a member representing Ilesha/Gwanara Constituency, Hon. Suleiman Idris Sunoboro.
Hon. Sunoboro recalled that the bridges were repaired last year by Army Engineering Corps through the intervention of the state government.
He said the same portion has collapsed again, adding that if not urgently addressed, it would affect social and economic activities of people of Baruten and Kaiama local governments.
Contributing, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke of Essa/Shawo/Igboidun Constituency, said holistic rehabilitation was required to put the bridges in proper shape.
The parliament in its resolutions, which was read by the Speaker, Barrister Razak Atunwa, called on the state government to take necessary steps to repair the bridges immediately.
It also mandated its Committee on Energy, Works and Transport to liaise with federal and state ministries of works to ensure the bridges are constructed.
The lawmakers asked the committee to monitor the progress and report back to the House on April 30.
