The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has commenced an unannounced inspection of police divisions and formations across the state to assess operational readiness and address security challenges affecting personnel.

The inspection began on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, with visits to the Area Command, Metro, Ilorin, and 12 divisional headquarters within the Ilorin metropolis.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the statement, the exercise is designed to assess the professional conduct, commitment and operational preparedness of officers, while also reviewing their working conditions and identifying capability gaps within the command.

During the visits, Adekimi interacted with personnel, reviewed security arrangements and issued directives aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness and public safety.

The commissioner placed particular emphasis on the security of police facilities, directing station guards to remain vigilant and responsive at all times.

He described station guards as the "first line of defence and security for every Police facility", stressing that they must maintain a high level of alertness.

Adekimi also reiterated the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, which focuses on accountability, professionalism, intelligence-led policing and community policing.

He charged officers to adopt proactive measures in preventing crime and remain disciplined, vigilant and responsive to the needs of their respective communities.

The CP further warned officers against misconduct, corruption and extortion, declaring that the command would maintain zero tolerance for unethical practices.

He said officers found culpable, as well as beneficiaries or end-users of corrupt practices, would face disciplinary and legal action in line with existing laws.

Adekimi said the inspection would extend to other divisions, formations and operational locations across the state without prior notice.

He explained that the unannounced nature of the exercise was intended to provide an objective assessment of personnel conduct, discipline, operational preparedness and compliance with established standards.

The commissioner therefore directed all officers to remain at their duty posts and maintain constant operational readiness.

He assured residents that the command would continue to prioritise proactive policing, effective crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across Kwara State.
