Kwara Government Tasks JTB, TIN Team on Information Dissemination

The Kwara State government has admonished the Joint Tax Board (JTB) and Taxpayer Identification Number team to expedite actions that will enable effective information dissemination of its programme to all States; Board of Internal Revenue and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and other stakeholders.

The Governor of the State, Doctor Abdulfatah Ahmed was represented by the State Commissioner for Finance, Demola Baanu at the Stakeholders Sensitisation Campaign on Taxpayer Identification Number, organised by Joint Tax Board.
According to him, kwara state was the first state to launch and implement the programme after it was launched in Abuja as part of its effort to increase internal Generated Revenue.

While speaking, the Governor noted that TIN initiative would create a harmonized electronic taxpayer Identification and registration system and widen the tax base through the registration of all eligible taxpayers, adding that the project would determine proper revenue allocation of government project.

The Governor reiterated his administrative commitment to support similar programmes that will enhance the Internal Generated Revenue of the state and Local government.

Speaking at the event, the JTB chairman, Mohammed Issa who was represented by Mallam Hasan Issa said TIN is used to operate many businesses and contract award.

He therefore urged Nigerian to the agency, saying the initiative would promote the economy of the state.

The Chairman of Kwara State Board of Internal Revenue, Mudasiru Oladipupo stressed that the progrmme was meant to educate all stakeholders and the general public about the initiative of the JTB.

“The increase in the challenges of Nigerian economy at this material time of dwindling economy and increase in government expenditure, taxation remains the only viable alternative source of government funding.

“This has therefore brought to forefront the need for extensive fiscal reforms in tax administration.

“The need for the creation of modern, efficient and effective tax system to raise sufficient revenue for public services and ensure significant compliance is inevitable. This and other factors informed the JTB to evolve policies and measures that will transform the tax system in the country in a uniquely tax framework that will address the local peculiarity, hence the TIN initiative,” he said.
