Kwara United Technical Director Suleiman Commends AMAPRO Sports Leadership Programme in Ilorin
The technical director of Kwara United FC, Ashifat Suleiman, has praised the AMAPRO Africa Development Programme, noting its significant role in enhancing the managerial skills of participants in the sports sector.
Suleiman highlighted that a major takeaway from the programme was the emphasis on coaches, club owners, sports administrators, and journalists embracing management and leadership principles as critical tools for sector growth.
Other participants also lauded the masterclass, which was held at the Ilorin Innovation Hub on Saturday under the theme "Project Management and Leadership Skills in Modern Sports Ecosystem."
The organisers stated that the webinar aimed to equip stakeholders with globally recognised project management practices to strengthen sports administration and improve efficiency through targeted capacity-building sessions.
One of the facilitators, Anthony Dele Daniel, who spoke virtually, stressed that successful project execution begins with clearly defining objectives, deliverables, timelines, and boundaries while avoiding unnecessary expenditures.
He also advocated for continuous monitoring, noting that it allows administrators to identify challenges, make necessary adjustments to achieve desired outcomes, coordinate stakeholders, and maintain clear communication channels.
Another facilitator, Adekemi Oyewusi, reinforced the need for sports professionals to integrate project management methodologies and leadership competencies into the rapidly evolving sports ecosystem.
Reacting to the sessions, Suleiman stated: "Knowledge is a continuous process. This programme has helped to improve our managerial skills. It is a very good programme," describing the event as highly impactful and beneficial to professional development.
The AMAPRO Africa Development Programme was staged in partnership with the Project Management Institute (PMI) Nigeria and attracted over 100 participants both physically and virtually in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Facilitators from PMI Nigeria highlighted key factors required for successful sports event organisation and administration, including effective planning, budgeting, team leadership, risk management, progress monitoring, and resource allocation.
