Civic Coalition Calls on ADC to Present Dr. Ajia for 2027 Kwara Governorship Race
A coalition of civic organisations, development advocates, and grassroots movements has called on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kwara State to present a credible governorship candidate in the 2027 general elections for improved development.
The coalition, according to its coordinator, Abubakar Abdulhamid, and the Assistant Women's Leader, Tajudeen Shifau, comprises organisations such as the Kwara Development Initiative, the Agaka Football Academy, the Red Card Movement, the Ilorin Gifted Academy, and the Nigerian Progressive Coalition.
The groups said the appeal came amidst calls for leadership that merges academic depth with executive experience to drive the state's next phase of development.
Representing a cross-section of professionals, youth, and community leaders, the groups formally called upon an Associate Professor of Business Administration and Marketing at Lincoln University of Missouri in the United States, Dr. Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia, to enter the governorship race. They cited Ajia's track record in development theory and his professional background as the basis for their endorsement.
The coalition, which highlighted the need for structured economic growth and sustainable infrastructure in Kwara State, advocated for a definitive shift in the state's political direction and accountable governance.
The groups also presented interests of youth empowerment, sports development, and community engagement, while emphasising the necessity of visionary leadership to align Kwara State with national progressive trends.
Spokespeople for the groups emphasised that the current socio-economic climate in Kwara State requires a governor who understands both the theoretical frameworks of development and the practical realities of administration.
"The decision to approach Professor Ajia was born out of a rigorous assessment of the state's needs," a representative of the coalition stated.
"Kwara requires a leader who can bridge the gap between policy and implementation, particularly in areas of economic security, infrastructure, and education."
Ajia, a dual-track academic executive and respected development theorist, is widely recognised for his work on economic frameworks and his commitment to the advancement of Kwara State.
