Four remanded for violating environmental laws

Four environmental law offenders were on Saturday remanded in Mandala Prison, while 26 others were fined between N5,000 N30,000.00 as part of measures to ensure compliance with environmental laws.
The Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Barrister Kayode Towoju, disclosed this after the Monitoring and Enforcement Campaign through the use of Mobile Courts by the Ministry and Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA).
Barrister Towoju informed that the sanitary officers are saddled with the enforcement of
Sanitation law, hence, they should ensure a clean, safe and healthy Environment.
The Commissioner noted that a responsible government would not allow disaster to happen in
its domain, hence the need to implement measures to minimize disasters forecasted by the Nigeria Meteological Agency (NIMET).
Barrister Towoju pointed out that several sensitization campaigns were on in  the media so as to implore the populace to imbibe the culture of cleanliness.
The offences for which the convicts were charged during the enforcement campaign are obstruction of health officers
on duty, encroachment on road setbacks, lack of Medical Fitness, dirty drainages, defective soak aways and toilets, lack of sanitary dustbins and dumping of gravel on drainages.
The areas visited were Edun,  Gegele, Oja-Oba, Surulere
