EFCC Nabs 30 Alleged Cyber Fraudsters in Kwara Operation
Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 30 suspected internet fraudsters during a sting operation in Kwara State.
The operation, which took place on Wednesday, was carried out in two buildings located in the Agbede community of Ilorin.
According to a statement issued by the Head, Media & Publicity of the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale, six of those arrested are students of Kwara State Polytechnic.
The statement said preliminary profiling by the EFCC indicated that the six students were actively involved in internet-related fraud, saying that the raid also led to the recovery of eight vehicles suspected to be proceeds of crime, as well as several mobile phones and laptop computers.
The Commission emphasized that the operation was conducted strictly at the identified locations and had no connection to the Polytechnic and clarified that operatives did not enter the school premises or disrupt any academic activities.
Addressing reports circulating online, the EFCC dismissed claims linking the operation to any student protest, describing such narratives as contrived and a misrepresentation of events.
Reiterating its stance, the Commission assured the public of its commitment to professionalism and integrity in the discharge of its duties.
It also encouraged citizens to utilize its established channels for reporting any unethical conduct by its personnel.
The EFCC stated that it remains dedicated to combating financial crimes and acting in the best interests of Nigerians.
