Insecurity in Nigeria Linked to Absence of Social Justice - Kwara Sharia Court Khadi

Date: 2026-03-05

A Khadi of the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, AbdulRaheem Ahmad Shayi, has attributed the prevailing insecurity in Nigeria to what he described as the extreme collapse of social justice.

Shayi made the assertion while delivering a lecture titled "Social Justice: An Effective Means of Achieving Peaceful Coexistence: Islamic Point of View" at a Ramadan lecture organised by the Islamic Missionaries Association of Nigeria (IMAN) in Ilorin, Kwara State.

He said the unabated flaunting of wealth by what he termed "irresponsible leaders" was contributing to the rising cases of banditry and kidnapping across the country.

According to the Khadi, racism and discriminatory comments are also capable of disrupting peaceful coexistence among citizens.

Shayi maintained that no nation could make meaningful progress where miscarriage of justice prevails, adding that many of the conflicts witnessed globally stem from injustice.

He therefore challenged individuals in positions of authority to ensure the fair and impartial dispensation of justice, regardless of whose interests may be affected, as a way of restoring sanity in the country.

The Khadi also urged participants at the lecture to instil sound moral values in their children and wards so that they could grow into responsible citizens who would contribute positively to society.
