First Lady Olufolake Abdulrazaq Donates School Essentials And Cash To Kwara Special Needs Students
The Wife of the Kwara State Governor, Professor Olufolake Abdulrazaq, has distributed school sandals, reflective jackets, and cash donations to students of the State School for Special Needs in Ilorin.
Speaking at the event, Professor Abdulrazaq stated that the initiative aims to enhance the welfare, safety, and educational experience of children with special needs, while simultaneously easing the burden on parents and guardians in providing essential school materials.
The First Lady, who serves as the Chairperson of the Nigerian Governors' Wives Forum, noted that the items represent more than just comfort. She remarked that they symbolise a vision of a Kwara where every child, regardless of background, can attend school with confidence, ready to learn, dream, and excel.
Professor Abdulrazaq, who is also the Founder of the Ajike People Support Centre, emphasised that educating students with special needs requires addressing their individual differences and providing tailored interventions. Such support, she noted, helps them achieve greater independence and success both in school and within their communities.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Social Development, Dr Mariam Nna Fatimah El-Imam, commended the First Lady's interventions. She stated that these efforts have restored dignity, hope, and confidence to women, children, persons living with disabilities, and vulnerable households. She expressed gratitude for the support, adding that the items and cash donations would enhance the safety and dignity of the students.
In his remarks, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander Mufutau Irekeola, highlighted the organisation's role in community outreach and environmental safety campaigns. He stressed that vulnerable groups, including persons with special needs, remains a primary focus of the Corps' programmes.
Earlier, the school's Principal, Hajiyah Rasheedat Jibril, praised the First Lady's support, noting that the distribution of sandals, reflective jackets, and cash would boost the students' safety, dignity, and confidence, enabling them to grow and contribute meaningfully to society. She added that the initiative reflects the First Lady's commitment to inclusive education and the welfare of persons living with disabilities.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the school's Head Boy, Yusuf Asimiyu, thanked the First Lady for the gesture, stating that it would improve the students' mobility and safety while strengthening their confidence to learn and excel.
