Oba-Isin Attack: Gunmen Seek N100m for Release of Kidnapped Widow
Armed bandits who kidnapped the wife of a slain forest guard, Raheem Ogunrinde, have reportedly demanded a N100 million ransom for her freedom.
The development comes less than 24 hours after a violent attack on Oba-Isin community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State on Wednesday evening, during which her husband, widely known as Baba Kafaya, was killed while confronting the assailants.
Mrs Funke Ogunrinde was abducted by the gunmen shortly after her husband was shot dead in the exchange of gunfire.
The ancient town has since been placed under heavy security presence, with operatives deployed to the area to forestall further attacks, according to findings by DAILY POST.
In the aftermath of the invasion, residents reportedly fled to neighbouring communities over fears of another assault.
A family source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told journalists in Ilorin on Thursday that the abductors had contacted them with a ransom demand of N100 million.
"The bandits called this morning and said that if we want our mother, Mrs Funke Ogunrinde, alive, we should pay N100 million as ransom.
"And we have been moving up and down to raise the money. We have also asked the bandits to reduce the amount, but they are yet to listen to us.
"We are also grieving the killing of our father, Mr Raheem Ogunrinde, by the suspected bandits during their invasion of our town on Wednesday. We are arranging his burial as I speak with you now," the source said.
