Death By Hanging: Ilorin Court Sentences Three To Die For Kidnap And Armed Robbery
A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced three men Patrick Afedia Adams, Tijani Usman, and Ahmed Muhammad to death for their roles in a violent farm raid, kidnapping, and rape.
In a judgment delivered on Monday, January 26, 2026, Justice Funsho Lawal found the trio guilty on a four-count charge including conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, and rape. The court heard how the convicts attacked Mr. Olubunmi Komolafe and his wife, Mrs. Adeola Morenikeji, at their farm in Kanjile village, near the Kulende area of Ilorin, on June 15, 2025.
The prosecution detailed a harrowing account of the incident, explaining that the convicts tied up the couple before kidnapping Mrs. Morenikeji and taking her to a secluded location. While in captivity, one of the convicts, Tijani Usman, was found to have "mercilessly raped" the victim. The criminals subsequently demanded a N5 million ransom for her release.
Justice Lawal, in his ruling, noted that the evidence presented by the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convicts were responsible for the heinous acts. He emphasized that the severity of the sentence reflects the court's stance on violent crimes that threaten the peace of the state.
The three convicts are to remain in custody until they are executed by the state, marking a significant victory for the Kwara State Ministry of Justice in its crackdown on kidnapping and gender-based violence.
