One Person Injured as Two Vehicles Attacked by Gunmen at Kwara-Kogi Border Town
One person was shot when suspected bandits attacked two vehicles at the border town of Eruku, in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, over the weekend (Friday night).
The victim, a male passenger in an evangelism bus belonging to the National Congress of Evangelization, Oyo State chapter, was hit in the left leg.
Reports gathered that the two vehicles, which included a bus and another carrying grains, were travelling toward Isanlu, Kogi State, along the Eruku-Obbo Ile road when they came under fire. Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers emerged from both sides of the road and began shooting indiscriminately. The drivers reportedly managed to speed away from the scene.
The injured passenger was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later discharged.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident, stating that efforts are currently ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack.
The vehicles were travelling to Isanlu, Kogi State, when the assailants struck along the Eruku-Obbo Ile road.
Witnesses said the gunmen emerged from both sides of the road and opened fire on the vehicles.
The driver reportedly sped off, narrowly escaping from the scene.
"One of the passengers sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital," a witness said.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Adekimi Ojo, said efforts were underway to track down the attackers.
"Two vehicles travelling to Isanlu were attacked. One was carrying grains, while the other had passengers heading for a wedding ceremony. A person sustained a gunshot injury and has been treated and discharged," he said.
