KWEPA and Kwara Poly Sign Landmark MoU for ND in Environmental Health Programme
The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, to launch a National Diploma (ND) programme in Environmental Health.
The initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening capacity in the environmental sector by equipping young Nigerians with technical expertise and practical knowledge essential for effective environmental health management.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, KWEPA General Manager Jide Aina described the partnership as a strategic move to train a new generation of environmental health officers capable of addressing critical challenges such as waste management, pollution control, and sustainability.
He reaffirmed KWEPA's commitment to providing technical support, mentorship, and hands-on field training to ensure students receive comprehensive, real-world experience throughout the programme.
Representing the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Kudabo Ajeigbe commended KWEPA for its visionary approach to environmental education, noting that the collaboration aligns with national development goals and industry needs.
The ND programme is expected to open admissions in the next academic session, producing skilled professionals to support public health and environmental governance in Kwara and beyond.
He assured the government that the polytechnic is fully prepared to provide the academic structure, qualified faculty, and a conducive learning environment required for the successful delivery of the programme.
Also, he noted that the curriculum will integrate both theoretical and practical components to produce well-rounded graduates who will become environmental health advocates within and beyond Kwara State.
Both institutions pledged to work collaboratively to ensure the smooth take-off and effective implementation of the programme and emphasised the importance of producing competent professionals who can support government efforts in creating cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities.
The ND programme is also expected to create employment opportunities for young people and foster research and innovation in environmental management.
With the MoU in place, both parties will commence work on curriculum development, accreditation processes, and other groundwork ahead of the launch of the programme and the admission of its pioneer students.
