Kwara Governor Backs Super Falcons at WAFCON Final During Morocco Visit

Date: 2025-07-27

Kwara State Governor and Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) Chairman, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, travelled to Morocco to lend his support to the Super Falcons of Nigeria ahead of the historic 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against hosts Morocco at Rabat Stadium.

The Governor, a noted advocate for sports development, attended the match alongside Hajj Gafar Liameed, Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), and Mallam Abdullah Musa Idris Thuraya, Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association (KSFA). His presence underscored Kwara State's commitment to women's football following Kwara United's recent victory in the President's Federation Cup.

The final, held on 28 July 2025, marked Nigeria's eighth consecutive appearance in the WAFCON decider, though the Super Falcons narrowly lost 1-0 to the host nation. Governor AbdulRazaq's attendance highlighted his administration's alignment with national sporting excellence and youth empowerment through athletics.

The Super Falcons went on to lift their 10th WAFCON title after an incredible 3-2 comeback victory over Morocco. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NGF Chairman, and many well-meaning Nigerians across the globe have since sent congratulatory messages to the Nigerian women's football team for reflecting Nigerians' resilient spirit and making the country proud.
