Legal Icon Prof. Rasheed Ijaodola Laid to Rest in Hometown Amid National Mourning
The esteemed legal scholar, Prof. Rasheed Ijaodola, SAN, who passed away on Sunday morning, was laid to rest in his hometown of Offa, located in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State. The burial took place on Monday, conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Prof. Ijaodola's demise has been mourned as a profound and irreplaceable loss to the legal fraternity and Nigeria as a whole. Renowned for his mentorship, he guided numerous law students throughout his career, many of whom have since achieved prominence in the legal field.
In a statement, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, expressed deep sorrow over the death of Prof. Ijaodola, describing it as a significant blow to the legal profession, academia, and the broader nation. His contributions to both fields will be sorely missed, leaving an enduring legacy behind.
Prof. Ijaodola, a native of Offa and a former law lecturer at the University of Ilorin, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Until his death, he was a professor of law at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.
In a condolence message issued by the University's Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole described the late professor as a towering figure in academia who influenced multiple generations of lawyers across various universities where he taught.
Prof. Egbewole further highlighted Ijaodola's scholarly dedication, noting that he held no fewer than four Ph.D. degrees in different fields, including Christian Studies, despite being a Muslim.
The statement praised the late professor as a remarkable scholar, a committed community builder, and a steadfast family man, adding that his absence would be deeply felt by the legal profession, academia, his Offa community, and his family.
The Vice Chancellor prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljanah Firdaus.
