Date: 2025-03-17

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has escalated its campaign against drug trafficking, dismantling illicit networks across several states in a series of high-profile operations that resulted in significant arrests and seizures.

In Kaduna State, NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi reported that operatives conducted a raid in Kachia on Thursday, 13th March, arresting a 21-year-old suspect, Idris Hamza, with 4,900 tramadol 225mg pills in his possession. Just 24 hours later, another operation in Hayin Banki, Kaduna North LGA, led to the apprehension of 25-year-old Aminu Magaji, who was found carrying 2,900 tramadol tablets .

The agency's crackdown also reached Kwara State, where a major interception along the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway on Friday, 14th March, yielded 40,200 tramadol tablets from two suspects—Olowoko Faruk and Akeem Ridwan. On the same day, Salisu Usman was arrested along the Eiyenkorin Expressway in Ilorin after being found in possession of 21,700 tramadol capsules .

Meanwhile, in Taraba State, NDLEA operatives carried out a bold operation on Bente Road, Kurmi LGA, on Friday, resulting in the arrest of 35-year-old Polycarp Adeku, who was discovered with 15.77kg of skunk , further demonstrating the agency's commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes nationwide.

Babafemi said Osun State witnessed one of the most dramatic seizures as NDLEA operatives on Thursday, 13th March, intercepted a commercial bus traveling from Idumota, Lagos Island, near King University, Ode-Omu.

The bus contained 48.7kg of high-grade cannabis strains, including Ghanaian Loud, Colorado, and Canadian Loud. A series of coordinated follow-up operations in Osogbo and Ile-Ife led to the arrest of nine suspects linked to the smuggling network.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, was not spared from NDLEA's crushing onslaught. On Tuesday, 11th March, operatives swooped on 58-year-old Ade Esan (aka Pastor) along Gwagwalada expressway, catching him red-handed with 27,800 pills of tramadol 225mg.

That same day, another bust in Wuse Zone 3 led to the arrest of 26-year-old Usman Mohammed, who was found with varying quantities of cocaine and skunk.

The agency also struck hard in Abia State, where NDLEA agents stormed Ntigha community, Isiala-Ngwa North LGA, on Saturday, 15th March. 34-year-old Chinaza Nwogu (aka Young Money) was nabbed with an alarming stash of 274 grams of heroin, 141 grams of methamphetamine, 2.931kg of cannabis sativa, 4 grams of cocaine, and a whopping N753,015.00 in drug proceeds.

NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended the operatives for their tactical precision, fearless execution, and unwavering commitment to dismantling drug syndicates.

“Our success in curbing drug trafficking is a result of the dedication and strategic approach of our officers nationwide,” he stated, reaffirming the agency's zero-tolerance stance on illicit drugs.
