Kwara Warns Cultists, Collaborators
Worried by the recent resurgence of cultism in some educational institutions in Kwara State, the state government on Monday read a Riot Act to perpetrators of the crime.
It reminded them and their collaborators of the extant law in the state that slams a jail term of seven years without an option of fine on anyone caught in the act.
The Commissioner for Information, Tunji Morohunfoye, said in a chat with reporters that no one would be spared when linked with cult activities irrespective of his or her societal status.
"The law is clear on this. Once caught and proved guilty by the competent court, it is seven years' imprisonment with hard labour. The law also affects the people that harbour them, especially the landlords. Their buildings could be demolished or leveled according to the military parlance," Morohunfoye said.
He lamented that some Federal Government projects are cited in wrong places in the state where they are less useful.
He, therefore, re-echoed the call by the state Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, that the Federal Government should, more than it does at present, carry along state governments as stakeholders on projects it is funding in their states.
