A robbery syndicate that specialises in stealing and selling stolen motorcycles has been nabbed by men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State.

The suspected criminals including a 22-year-old Seyi Adebayo, was alleged to be the robber, while Azeez Taofik and Saka Wasiu, were alleged to be the buyers of the stolen goods.

Speaking with Community News in Ilorin, the state NSCDC Commandant, Yerima Gana, said Seyi Adebayo with others now at large, were nabbed at Kulende-Akerebiata, adjacent Royal Valley Estate area of Ilorin as they were trying to escape with a stolen motorcycle after unlocking it where it was parked.

He said the suspects met their waterloo when neighbours around the area raised the alarm which led  to their arrest.

The civil defence boss, who said that the suspects had confessed to their crimes, added that they always dispose the motorcycles to already waiting buyers outside Ilorin, the state capital and other neighbouring states.

Gana also said that investigations led to the arrest of Azeez Taofik in Igbeti and Saka Wasiu in Kishi, both in Oyo State, adding that the two confessed that they had been buying stolen motorcycles from the first accused and his friend, now at large, before their arrest.

He said the accused persons would  soon be charged to court, adding that the Act establishing the corps gives it the power to arrest, investigate and prosecute offenders according to the law.

Speaking with Community News, the suspected robber, who said he was a commercial motorcycle rider, said he was lured into the crime by his friends who buy stolen motorcycles from him.

He said first grade of stolen motorcycle is sold between N30,000  N40,000 and while others are sold for N20,000.
