'Scrap House of Reps' - Abdulkadir Orire
Speaking during the Eid-el-Maulud celebration in Ilorin on Thursday, he said in the alternative, the legislators should be on part-time basis and be paid only sitting allowances.
He, however, canvassed that the Senate be retained but with reduced allowances paid to its members
He said, "To remedy this tragedy, we call on the authorities to scrap the House of Representatives or let them be like the old parliamentary system where the lawmakers should be on part-time and to be paid only allowances for sittings.
"The Senate may remain but its members paid reduced allowances. The nation is hungry and the nation is dying. Take Ilorin, for example, by going to Geri Alimi Roundabout, Magaji Nda Corner to Adifa, or to Gambari area among others, one will find thousands of beggars scouting and looking for what to eat.
"The same situation is happening in all big towns in this country; from the North to the South."
Orire urged Muslims to ensure good neighbourliness, sustain Nigeria's unity and work for united efforts for national development.
