Kwara Govt to Build Independent Power Plant, Aims to Boost Economy and Jobs
Leadership highlights that the Kwara State Government has revealed plans to construct an Independent Power Plant (IPP) aimed at generating electricity for both sale and utility purposes.
The state's Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez AbdulGaniy, made this known during a media briefing in Ilorin, the state capital.
AbdulGaniy explained that the proposed IPP is set to drive economic growth and create numerous employment opportunities across Kwara. He further noted that the government is working diligently to promote renewable energy through solar, thermal, and biogas solutions, with the aim of reducing air pollution and fostering a healthier environment for residents.
AbdulGaniy said the government's plan was in line with the 2023 Electricity Bill signed by President Bola Tinubu, which gives state government the power to generate, transmit and distribute electricity to boost economic growth and development as well as attract investors to the states.
He listed the achievements of his ministry to include the procurement and installation of transformers in different communities in Asa, Moro, Ilorin West and Kaiama local government areas of the state.
He added that the construction of 11KV dedicated feeder from Agba-Dam, finalised arrangements on the immediate release of 15MVA 33/11KV power transformer to Alagbado and Sobi Communities, were already approved by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is passionate about the needs of the people of the state and he will not leave any stone unturned. He has also approved the immediate installation of already allocated transformer to Reke in Asa local government area.”
