Kwara Government Acquires 100 Electric Motorcycles to Support Public Transport

Date: 2024-10-10

According to a report from Leadership, the Kwara State Government has acquired 100 electric motorcycles to bolster public transportation within the state.

This initiative aims to ease the burden on commuters and transport operators following the removal of fuel subsidies, providing a more sustainable alternative for transportation.

The State Commissioner for Works and Transport, AbdulQowiy Olododo, revealed this during a media briefing held in Ilorin, the state capital. He emphasised the government's ongoing efforts to alleviate the challenges faced by the public in the wake of economic changes.

Olododo also noted that the state is anticipating the delivery of these 100 electric motorcycles, which were purchased following the establishment of a compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion workshop and gas station in Ilorin.

“Kwara State has been able to commission a CNG conversion workshop and gas station, in line with the presidential initiative on CNG to mitigate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal.

“His Excellency, through the Ministry, has procured 100 electric motorcycles, which the ministry is awaiting delivery in the coming days,“ the commissioner said.

Olododo also disclosed that his ministry has completed 75 road projects and has another 52 ongoing across the state. The projects include rehabilitation, reconstruction, interlocking, and beautification.
