Kwara Poly Suspends Lectures to Mourn Slain Student
The management of Kwara State Polytechnic has suspended lectures for two days to mourn one of its students, Ige Joseph of the Electrical/Electronics Engineering Department, who died in a motorcycle accident, last Tuesday.
The Guardian gathered that two other students sustained injuries in the incident that occurred along old Jebba Road, Ilorin, while they were going for lectures.
Spokesperson for the institution, Halimah Garba, in a statement, yesterday, said the move was to sympathise with the family and develop ways to forestall future recurrence.
He said the rector, Abdul Mohammed, has concluded arrangements to make available two luxurious buses that would convey students to and fro the mini campus.
The management stressed that the relocation of some part-time students to the mini campus was meant to create a more convenient environment for learning. It pledged continued commitment to protecting the welfare of students.
The rector called on the students to remain calm, focused, and conduct themselves in a peaceful manner throughout their stay at the institution.
He advised the students to avoid acts that could tarnish the good image of the institution. He also assured parents, guardians and the general public that no efforts would be spared at ensuring the safety of all students within and outside the campus.
Meanwhile, the two other students involved in the same accident are said to be stable and responding to treatment at a hospital.
