Kwara denies retrenching LG workers

Date: 2013-01-11

Kwara - The Kwara Government on Friday denied that it ordered local governments in the state to retrench some workers.

Mr Tunji Moronfoye, Commissioner for Information and Communications, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin that those retrenched were ghost workers discovered during the biometric data verification in 2011.

“There is no reason for people to be removed from their job if they are performing to expectation, but people that refuse to show up for biometric data have to be removed.

“Some local government workers will not go to work, they sit at home just to collect salaries and the government said this has to be stopped." Moronfoye added that some of the council workers did not report for the exercise and had no cogent reason for their absence.

He advised those who have reasons for missing the exercise to show up at their local governments. The commissioner said the state was 33rd on revenue sharing ladder of the country, adding that “we have to manage our little resources“.
