Egbewole restates UNILORIN's commitment to equal opportunity
...as OSF awards N2.2m scholarships to 20 deaf students
In a heartwarming display of commitment to inclusive education, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has reemphasised the institution's commitment to equal opportunity and the embrace of diversity.
Prof. Egbewole stated this last Wednesday (November 1, 2023) at the flag-off of the Opeoluwa Sotonwa Foundation (OSF) Scholarship Scheme for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students at the Moot Court Complex, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin.
At the event, the Foundation awarded N100, 000 scholarship each to 20 exceptional students in the OSF Exceptional Scholarship Awardees category, while the National President of the National Association of Nigerian Deaf Students (NANDS), Nehemiah Danjuma, received the prestigious Professor Kanyinsola Fellowship Award worth N200,000 in recognition of his outstanding contributions.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Suleiman Ambali, the Vice Chancellor noted that the University has consistently strived to create an environment that fosters inclusivity while embracing the diversity of its students.
He commended the Founder of Opeoluwa Sotonwa Foundation (OSF), Dr Opeoluwa Sotonwa, for his impressive philanthropic gesture to the awardees and his alma mater.
The Vice Chancellor pointed out that the OSF founder, who is currently the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, USA MCDHH/MA, has indeed shown compelling evidence that individuals with disabilities have the potential to excel, adding that there are no valid excuses for failure.
