Date: 2023-08-16

Situated in Kwara State, Nigeria, Summit University, Offa, continues to exemplify its research-driven excellence by securing a prestigious international grant for its pioneering initiative: the Artificial Intelligence for Women in Aquaculture (AI4WA) project. Generously sponsored by the Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network (GRAIN) in Africa, this accomplishment underscores the institution's unwavering dedication to innovative and socially conscious research.

In a momentous commencement meeting convened on August 15th, 2023, Professor Abiodun Musa Aibinu, esteemed Vice-Chancellor and principal investigator, warmly lauded the research team's unwavering dedication in meticulously crafting and successfully submitting the proposal. While acknowledging this achievement as a significant milestone, he propelled them to set their sights higher, emphasizing that their journey toward transformative advancements has only just begun.

The heart of the project's objective, eloquently delineated by Mrs. Mutiat Muhammed, assumes a pivotal role in reshaping the aquaculture landscape. By harnessing the potency of Artificial Intelligence methodologies, the initiative remains steadfast in championing gender inclusivity. Its fundamental purpose is to empower women within the aquaculture realm, equitably granting them access and opportunities in a domain historically dominated by males. Yet, the grant's impact transcends gender parity; it seeks to facilitate the localized assimilation and harmonization of AI technologies. This strategic domestication aligns seamlessly with broader national interests, bolstering food security and nurturing sustainable agricultural practices throughout Nigeria.

As this transformative project unfolds, Summit University, Offa, alongside its collaborative partners, stands primed to not only push the frontiers of knowledge but also to proactively address societal challenges. By synergizing cutting-edge technology, gender parity, and food security objectives, AI4WA emerges as an emblem of progress that resonates far beyond the confines of academia. In effect, it heralds a more brilliant future for both the aquaculture sector and the nation at large.

In the spirit of partnership and collaboration: Federal University of Technology, Minna, (FUTMINNA), Nigeria, represented by the capable Dr. Talia Folorunso at the commencement meeting; Kwara State University, Malete, Kwara State; and Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Osun State; are members of the consortium advancing this noble cause.

In unison, Summit University's leadership, comprising the Ag. Registrar, Ag. Bursar, Ag. Director of Academic Planning, and the Public Relations Officer, joined the jubilation, extolling the collaborative efforts of the team—encompassing both dedicated staff, research fellows and enthusiastic research students.

Others present at the momentous commencement meeting include: Mr. Olatunde, Dr. Akinfenwa, Dr. Usman Okeme, Mr. Suleiman, Mr. Faruq Usman, Mr. Mustapha, and Mrs. Ganiyat Afolabi Yusuf, research fellows, research assistants and other esteemed members of the university community and research group.
