Kwara polytechnic suspends exams over naira crisis
The Management of Kwara State Polytechnic has shut down the institution for about 29 days following the Wednesday protest at Apata Yakuba and the polytechnic axis over Naira scarcity.
The institution also postponed its ongoing semester examinations till after the general elections.
The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Halimat Garba, in a statement on Thursday, urged the students to stay away from the campus between Wednesday, February 15, 2023 and Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
According to her, the school is closed down to allow students to perform their civic responsibility by participating in the forthcoming general elections and in line with the directive from the Federal Ministry of Education for the security of staff, students and property of the institutions.
The statement read, “Following the hardship being experienced by Nigerians due to the persistent fuel and naira scarcity across the country, the Management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has postponed the ongoing first semester examinations in the institution till after the general elections.
“The decision was to make life comfortable and bearable for its students and ensure they didn’t miss any examination due to unforeseen circumstances.
“Students of the polytechnic will stay away from the campus from today Wednesday 15th February 2023 to Tuesday 14th March 2023 to allow its students to perform its civic responsibility by participating in the forthcoming general elections.
“This is in line with the directive from the Federal Ministry of Education for the security of staff, students and property of the institutions.
“While commending the pro-active efforts of the leadership of the Polytechnic in making life bearable for the Polytechnic community, the statement urged the students to be law abiding and avoid acts that can tarnish the image of the institution, the state and the country at large.”
