Rivers Battles Kwara, Ogun Meets Delta in Badminton Semis

All is now set for the semi-final matches of the badminton event of the ongoing Eko 2012 Games.

In the men's semi-finals pairings, Rivers will tackle Kwara and Ogun will confront Delta, while the women's event will see Ogun take on Rivers and Delta battle FCT, Abuja.

Rivers had earlier thrashed Benue 3-1 while Delta defeated Lagos 3-1; Ogun overcame Oyo while Kwara walloped FCT, Abuja 3-0 in the quarter-finals played at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, Rowe Park.

In the women's quarter-finals, Imo beat Ogun 1-0, Delta defeated Kwara 2-0, FCT Abuja edged out Lagos while Taraba fell 0-2 to Rivers.

Looking forward to Tuesday's semis, the handler of Team Ogun, Segun Akinsanya, said that victory in the quarter-finals has given them the opportunity to aim for the title.

"I am very grateful to God for our performance this (yesterday) afternoon and now that we have qualified for the medals zone, we can now aim for the gold medal," Akinsanya said.

Disappointed coaches of Team Lagos, Benjamin Orakpo and Opeoluwa Oshineye, were sadness over their exit but are looking forward to better outing in the singles and doubles events.
