'Name Kwara Govt House after Saraki'

Date: 2012-11-28

A former Commissioner for Special Duties in Kwara state, Alhaji Razaq Lawal and a member of the state House of Assembly, Hon Kamaldeen Ajibade, have suggested the naming of Kwara State Government House after the late Second Republic Senate Leader, Dr Olusola Saraki.

Lawal, in an interview with newsmen in Ilorin, said that "the late Baba Saraki was the true and authentic landlord of Kwara Government House and he always passed the key to whoever he wishes through the help of Almighty Allah.

"He was instrumental to the elections of all former civilian governors of the state, namely Alhaji Adamu Attah, Chief Cornelius Adebayo,Alhaji Sha'aba Lafiagi and Dr Bukola Saraki. Therefore, no one but the late Saraki deserves to be so immortalised."

Also, Hon Ajibade argued that no governor in a democratic dispensation got elected without the input of the late Saraki.

He added, "I heard National Assembly calling for the naming of Ilorin International airport after him. I totally disagree with this. Going by history, there is hardly any governor in a democratic dispensation that got to power without Saraki's support.

"Therefore that seat of government should be named after him because he deserves more than that for his generosity".

The lawmaker added that, "the cream of those who have been visiting the state since his death show that his demise was a great loss to the entire Nigerian nation".
