Seven killed, 21 injured in Kwara crash, FRSC blames speeding, overloading
Seven people died while 21 others were injured in a lone accident at the Otte end of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road, Asa Local Government Area, Kwara State.
The accident, which involved a white Mazda bus with number plate, ZUR 159 XJ, occurred around 3.30am on Sunday.
The Federal Road Safety Corps attributed the crash to speeding, overloading, and burst tyre.
Statistics released by the FRSC showed that the 18-passenger bus carried 28 people, including 13 male adults, seven female adults, two male children, and six female infants.
Seven people, including three male adults, two female adults, and two female children, however, died in the accident; 21 others were injured.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Kwara State, Jonathan Owoade, said the commercial vehicle was overloaded with passengers, adding that it might have resulted in the burst tyre.
"The Kwara State Ministry of Health gave us an ambulance to support ours to take the victims to a hospital," he added.
Owoade said 14 big bags were recovered from the scene of the accident and the bus, was handed over to the traffic division of the Nigeria Police Force.
He warned drivers to obey the speed limit, avoid speeding, and desist from overloading.
