PDP Charges Governors to Surpass Predecessors' Records

Date: 2012-11-12

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has charged governors elected on the platform of the party to work towards surpassing the achievements of their predecessors in office.

This, he said, would give them edge above other candidates, who may be aspiring for future elections in the country.

Tukur, who gave the charge when the governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfataih Ahmed, visited the National Secretariat of the PDP over the weekend, said it was only when the governors were able to surpass achievements recorded by their predecessors that the country could move forward for meaningful development to set in.

He also stated that the present National Working Committee (NWC) of the party was determined to surpass the achievements of the previous ones in party administration, stating that that should be what every political office holder should aspire to do.

He likened the situation to a family setting, stating that every father usually aspires to have his or her child greater than him in terms of achievements.

Speaking on the programmes of the present NWC, Tukur said: "We have come to do better than the previous team. We expect every governor to do better than his predecessor as that is how the country will improve and grow."

Tukur commended the Kwara State governor for sustaining the agriculture policy of his predecessor, Senator Bukola Saraki, saying: "You are making good use of the land, water and the people."
Earlier in his address, Ahmed commended Tukur for evolving a proactive NWC, which had brought in a lot of dynamism into its activities.

He said: "We are happy to identify with you. We thank God for making you the chairman of the party. We are happy we are part of PDP. PDP has done very well in these years given the fact that it is a party hurried put together. From 1999 till date, PDP has done well given where the country is coming from. Against all odds, we are moving forward."

On his state, the governor said: "We have taken agriculture to the next level. It is what we know best."

Meanwhile, the National Organising Secretary of the party, Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha, has debunked claims by the PDP National Legal Adviser, Victor Kwon, that those he described as 'snakes and reptiles' would not be re-admitted into the party.

He said the reconciliation in the party was total for all members to move the party forward.

Mustapha told journalists that the party's reconciliation agenda was open to all former members who wish to come back.

According to him, "our reconciliation is total. There are no snakes and reptiles."
He also explained why the party congratulated the winners of Edo and Ondo States governorship elections, stating that it was the belief of the party that the outcome of the elections was fair and transparent.

Kwon also stated that this was why the PDP congratulated the winners, noting that the PDP candidates in the respective states that went to court are on their own.
