Teacher, Student Remanded for Robbery
Two suspected armed robbers, including a 23-year old teacher, Ajayi Joshua Oluwatosin, of Tanke Oke-Odo and a student, Taofeek Tobi Adeshina, 23 of Niger Road, both of Ilorin, have been remanded at the Federal Medium Security Prisons, Mandala.
The accused were dragged before an Ilorin magistrate court on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
They were said to have on October 1, gone to one Mrs. Maureen Ezeka's shop at Taiwo Road, pretending to be customers.
They latter allegedly brought out a locally made pistol and held their victim hostage at gunpoint, tying her two hands and sealing her mouth with cellotape after which they carted away sixty five Gsm handsets and phone accessories valued at about N465,000 and a cash sum of N8, 850.
Nemesis, however, caught up with the two accussed when passers by who heard the victim's distress call, ran after the suspected hoodlums in their attempt to escape; apprehending Ajayi Joshua Oluwatosin in the process.
The latter was handed over to the police at 'B' Division, where the matter was reported before being transferred to SARS office.
Consequently, the second accused Taofeek Tobi Adeshina was reportedly arrested at an hideout at Laduba area on October 3, 2012, where 21 GSM handsets, a cash sum of N7000 robbed from the victim, a locally made double barrel pistol used for the robbery and two cartridges were recovered from him.
The Police First Information Report (FIR) equally revealed that a battle axe, a machete and a pair of army camouflage trousers were recovered from Adeshina's house.
The police FIR further revealed that not only investigation conducted but also the accused person admitted the crime.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor handling the matter, Sergeant Nasiru Yusuf objected the bail of the accused.
Ruling, Magistrate A.S. Olanipekun remanded the accused at Federal Medium Security Prison, Mandala and adjourned the case till October 31 for mentioning.
