Petroleum marketers charged to always have evidence of purchase

Date: 2020-02-23

The North Central Zone of the Joint Border Operation has warned petroleum marketers to always accompany their tankers with manifest and waybills showing their destinations.

This became necessary in view of some misunderstandings over their operations along the Nigeria-Benin Republic border.

Correspondent Ibrahim Alege reports that the meeting which was attended by representatives of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Petroleum Tankers Drivers and National Union of Road Transport Workers, was convened at the instance of the North Central Zone of the joint border operation to clear some grey areas over its operations at border communities in Kwara state.

There have been complaints from the petroleum marketers that their tankers were impounded by the customs even outside the 20 kilometre radius before the Nigeria-Benin republic border.

It was also agreed that erring passengers found with prohibited items should be arrested instead of the driver, provided such passengers had been forewarned by the driver.

Nigeria shares borders with Benin republic in Baruten and Kaiama local government areas of Kwara state.
