The Special Assistant to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Youth Employment, Alhaji Saka Babatunde, has said that the Kwara state Government had concluded arrangement to provide 10,000 jobs by May next year.
Babatunde who disclosed this in Ilorin during the week in an interview with newsmen said the administration two weeks ago began the recruitment which has so far absorbed about 500 youths.
"It started two weeks ago when we started the Pilot Scheme' in which about seven local governments in the state are involved.
Five hundreds youths and women are involved and they have already been engaged in public work.
"It is our grand plan that between now and December, we will scale it up to about 5,000 and before May next year we should have reached the 10,000 climax", the governor's aide disclosed.
Babatunde who also reeled out some other programmes lined up for youth employment and empowerment, said the 10,000 job opportunities were part of several youth-oriented programmes being embarked upon by the administration.
"That is just one plan. We have other plans geared towards creating massive employment opportunities in the coming year," he added.
The governor's aide advised Nigerian youth to develop interest in vocational and skill acquisition, saying that the white collar job was not easy to come by in the present day Nigeria.
"Recent event has shown that we can no longer continue to rely on government. We should start disabusing our minds about white collar jobs, the future lies in human capital development. "The youth should start to imbibe the idea of vocational and skill acquisition. They must believe in creating employment for themselves," Babatunde advised.
