Nigeria must prepare for post-oil years - Kwara gov

Date: 2019-11-08

The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, says it is time Nigeria began to wean itself off crude oil as its major source of revenue.

He said Nigeria should now begin to concentrate on agriculture and also invest in technical education.

The governor, according to a statement on Thursday, said this at the 26th convocation of the Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin.

He was represented by the Secretary to the Kwara State Government, Prof Mamman Jibril.

He told the graduating students to brace themselves for the nearest future when the 9am-5pm jobs would no longer be fashionable.

The governor said, "The whole world is preparing for post-oil years and this means we must consciously wean ourselves off the unhelpful addiction to the oil wealth. We must promote skills acquisition, agribusiness, and enterprise.

"Dear graduating students, I want you to imagine a future without petrol dollars or a future where robots would take over most of the jobs now handled by humans."
