UITH Workers Back after Six-Day Strike
Work resumed yesterday at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital after the Joint Action Committee (JAC) suspended its six-day old strike late Wednesday.
Members of the union, last Friday, proceeded on an indefinite strike to press home their demands for improved welfare.
The affected workers were said to be agitating for increase in shift allowance and promotion.
Following the industrial action, activities at the hospital were halted, as workers insisted on no work until their demands were met.
New patients at the medical centre were turned back, as the management of the hospital resolved not to receive patients until the strike was suspended.
Some patients had to relocate to private hospitals for proper medical attention.
However, when The Herald visited the hospital yesterday, workers were seen in their offices.
Efforts to get the UITH Assistant Director Corporate Affairs, Alhaji Oba Hassan Kadir's comment on the suspended strike proved abortive, as he was said to be away on official assignment.
The union leaders of the Joint Action Committee were said not to be around at about 2:30pm The Herald visited the hospital premises.
