Kidnapping: This is not who we are, says Kwara governor

Date: 2019-07-28

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, at the weekend, said the recent abduction of four Turkish expatriates in the state was a "one-off event, which does not represent who we are as a people."

AbdulRazaq said this in Abuja, after he handed over the expatriates to Turkish Embassy officials, hours after they were released unconditionally, according to a statement by his spokesman, Rafiu Ajakaye, yesterday.

The statement said the state government might consider toughening the state's anti-kidnapping laws, among other measures, to protect lives and property and keep investors'confidence.

The statement said: "The abduction is a horrible crime against the innocent victims, who had their freedom curtailed. The government also views the development as an assault on the peace-loving people of Kwara State and will not go unpunished..."

The statement said the government was elated that the expatriates regained their freedom.

The government urged the people of the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement or strange persons to nearby security posts."
