Threat To Saraki's Life: Kwara PDP Faults Police Claims

Date: 2019-01-13

The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Kwara state has faulted claims by the state's police command that the party never reported cases of assault on its members to any police station in the state.

The party, in a statement made available to newsmen last night described the police position as another validation of the alarm the party's national leader and Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki raised on Friday that the police has become a partisan arbiter in the politics of the state.

According to the statement signed by the state publicity secretary of the PDP, Tunde Ashaolu, available evidences indicated that the party had not raised a false alarm as it submitted several reports on the attacks on its members by suspected thugs of the APC who unleashed violence on PDP members on Thursday.

The Kwara state police command had on Saturday issued a statement personally signed by the Kwara state commissioner of police, Bashir Makama, where it claimed that Saraki's allegations that his life and those of his supporters were in danger in the state were unsubstantiated.

But, the PDP in its response to the police claims said it submitted a petition titled" Attack on the lives of Mr Mumini Ambali and Mr Aremo Fatai by armed thugs of factional APC loyal to AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq on the orders of Musibau Eshinrogunjo, Yahaya Seriki and Ibrahim Labaika at Adewole ward, Ilorin" dated January 11,2019 to the office of the Kwara state police commissioner.

The petition was signed by the party's State Legal Adviser, O.M Aborishade(Esq).

It said the petition was received and acknowledged by the office of Kwara state police commissioner and a copy of the petition, duly signed and stamped by the receiver was given to the PDP officials by the police.

The PDP added that " we also submitted another petition titled " Petition Against The Destruction of Campaign Posters and Banners " dated January 11, 2019 to the office of the Kwara.
