Contributory Pension Scheme: Kwara Assembly to Liaise with NASS on the Exclusion of Nigeria Police

Date: 2018-10-25

Kwara State House of Assembly has promised to liaise with members of the National Assembly from the state to ensure accelerated legislative action for the exclusion of Nigeria Police from the Contributory Pension Scheme.

The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad made the pledge when a delegation of Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria, visited the House on a Save Our Soul mission.

Dr.Ahmad, who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Chief Mathew Okedare, assured that since all the National Assembly members from Kwara State are from the same political party with the state Assembly members, the intervention would be hitch free.

He commended the police retirees for their maturity and the peaceful manner they conducted their protest to the State House of Assembly, stressing that the legislature would continue to be responsive to the yearnings of the people who elected them into office.

In his remark, the House Leader, Hon Hassan Oyeleke said the House emphatised with the police retirees on the negative effects of the contributory pension scheme on them.

The Leader of the retirees, Mr. Yakub Jimoh, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police, said they were against the contributory pension scheme as it was not retirees friendly.

Mr. Jimoh noted that the retirees wanted to be excluded from the scheme and reverted to the old scheme like their counterparts in other forces and the State Security Service.

He said the visit to the leadership of the State House of Assembly was to solicit their support in reaching out to the National Assembly to expedite the process of passing the bill which , according to him, would exempt the Police from the scheme.

Mr.Jimoh also called for the intervention of the Inspector General of Police in the resolution of the issues relating to the non refund of the National Housing Fund contributions of some members of the Association who retired from 2007 to date.
