APC's former spokesman resigns from board chairman appointment after 8 months

Date: 2018-08-04

Abdullahi's resignation is coming after spending a total of 215 days as the Chairman of the Nigeria Sugar Development Council.

Barely eight months after the appointment of Bolaji Abdullahi as a board chairman of a Federal Government parastatal, the ex-National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has resigned.

Abdullahi's resignation is coming after spending a total of 215 days as the Chairman of the Nigeria Sugar Development Council.

The former spokesman the ruling party, who announced his resignation via his Twitter handle on Friday, August 3, 2018, was appointed a board chairman alongside 208 individuals for Government Agencies and Parastatals on December 29, 2017 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Bolaji Abdullahi explains why he resigned FG appointment

Abdullahi explained why he resigned his appointment with a Federal parastatal which only lasted 215 days - counting from January 1, 2018.

The former ThisDay Newspaper senior editor said his resignation is as a result of his decision to quit the ruling party, where he also served as the spokesman.

He wrote: "Following my resignation as National Publicity Secretary of APC and my decision to quit the party, I announced to the board this morning that I have resigned my appointment as Chairman, Nigeria Sugar Development Council."

In his resignation letter as spokesman to the APC, Abdullahi had said he 'had to endure the flagrant usurpation of my role as the spokesman of the party in a manner that I consider unbefitting of a ruling party and inconsistent with my ethical standards.'

He further said "However, in a situation whereby my loyalty is constantly brought into question; my subordinates deployed to subvert my office; and my views constantly second-guessed on the basis of my political affiliation, it has become imperative for me to review my position."

Abdullahi's exit from the APC comes barely 24-hours after Senate President Bukola Bukola Saraki dumped the ruling party on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

He is believed to be an ally of the Senate President.

The APC spokesman had denied rumours of his defection from the APC on Tuesday.

But, in a statement made available to Pulse on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, Abdullahi said he was resigning his position as APC spokesman and membership due to the dissolution of the Kwara State executive of the party.
