Corn seller bags 2 months jail for theft of cable wire in Kwara

An Ilorin Magistratesí Court on Wednesday sentenced a corn seller, Ibrahim Umar, to two months imprisonment for stealing a cable wire valued at N112,500.

The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Dasuki, sentenced the first accused to two months imprisonment for the offence of mischief and theft with an option of N7000 fine.

Dasuki sentenced Umar after he pleaded guilty to the alleged offences while his accomplice, Damilola Awoyemi denied the allegation. The magistrate, in a ruling, ordered the remand of the second accused, Damilola in Okekura Prison, Ilorin.

Police Prosecutor Adewumi Johnson said the convict pleaded guilty on a three-count charge of conspiracy, mischief and theft which contravened sections 97, 287 and 327 of the Penal Code.

He said that the accused was arrested by vigilance group along Ajase-Ipo road Ilorin and two sack bag containing stolen electricity cable wires recovered from them on April 15 at 11.00 a.m.

The prosecutor left the bail of the accused to courtís discretion.The case has been adjourned till May 8 for further mention.
