Non-teaching workers picket UNILORIN

Date: 2018-02-06

Striking non-teaching staff of the University of Ilorin, comprising members of the institution's chapters of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff of Universities and National Association of Academic Technologists, shut the gates of the institution as early as 7.30 am on Monday to prevent their colleagues from entering the campus.

The workers, who allowed non-members of the three unions to enter the campus, turned back those going to work. They explained that their action was in compliance with a directive from the national leaderships of their unions.

The workers demanded the release of the sum of N66bn by the Federal Government for the three unions nationwide.

The Chairman of NASU in UNILORIN, Mr. Suberu Ibrahim; his SSANU and NAAT counterparts, Mr. Jimoh Akanbi and Mr. Femi Awolola, alleged that Federal Government had not addressed their demands since the unions commenced the ongoing strike.

Warning that the strike and picketing would continue until FG addressed their demands, they said that they were fighting the government, not the management of UNILORIN.
