Residents raise the alarm as crisis brews in Offa, Erin-Ile

Some indigenes of Kwara State have raised the alarm over another impending communal crisis brewing between Offa and Erin-Ile, in the state.

The two neighbouring communities, had few years ago, engaged in protracted communal clash, which led to the loss of lives and properties valued at billions of naira.

Members of Offa Descendants Union on Friday engaged in a peaceful protest as they chanted songs and carried placards in Offa. Some of the placards read: Offa community is not a coward, we only love peace; Erin-Ile, Offa has never attacked you, stop attacking Offa; Offa says no to destruction of lives and property; Enough is enough, Erin-Ile stop destroying Offa property.'

The Secretary General of ODU, Home and in the Diaspora, Chief Wosilat Macarthy, during a media briefing in Offa alleged that some people from Erin-Ile had launched fresh attacks on the properties of Offa indigenes, especially those around Igosun axis on Unity Road.

She warned that the acts of the unidentified culprits, if not checked, could degenerate into breakdown of law and order in the area. She, however, noted that the matter had been reported to the police.

But the Vice-President, Erin-Ile Progressive Union, Alhaji Raji Jimoh, said the allegation against his people were untrue and unfounded.

He said nobody from his community attacked or destroyed any property belonging to Offa people, adding that his people had lived in peace and had avoided any breach of the law.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lawan Ado, had ordered an investigation into the complaint.
