Shun white collar jobs, Commissioner charges Kwara youths

Date: 2017-03-14

The Kwara State Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Alhaji Wasiu Odewale has called on youths to embrace entreprenuership skills and be job creators rather than seeking non-existing white collar jobs.

The Commissioner stated this in a statement signed and made available to this medium yesterday by the Press Secretary of the ministry, Daibu Abubakar, The statement quoted the Commissioner urging the youths to be creative and think outside the box by combining their talents and energy to become self-reliant. He said, "Too much emphasis is placed on certificate by Nigerian youths where everyone wants to obtain as much certificates as possible thinking it's a safe passage to success.

"Youths should rather direct their creativity and hard work in realising their dreams to have positive impact in the society by being an entrepreneur". Odewale noted that youths of this generation have become lazy, relying on their parents for funds and government for job adding that with entrepreneurial development such act will become minimal.

The Commissioner however commended the state government for being creative in fulfilling its responsibilities despite the economic recession.

The statement further said "The state government has only been able to survive the dwindling economy in the country because of the ability to think outside the box and rather see recession as an opportunity to strengthen the economic capacity of the state to meet its responsibility and deliver good governance to Kwara State."
