Brutalised Ilorin NAMA staff gives 21 days ultimatum to IG, Kwara CP

Date: 2017-01-17

An Aeronautical Information Service Officer with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Ilorin International Airport, Mr. Ishola Oluwafemi, who was brutalised by some riot police officers last week had threaten to institute court action against the police authorities over the incident if his demands were not meant.

Oluwafemi, National Pilot gathered last night had written to the police to demand for five million naira as damages over the incident and gave the police 21-day ultimatum to reply to his letter, failure of which he threatened to institute a court action.

Speaking with his counsel, Barrister Tony Gbegbaje last night on the issue, he said the letter of complaint that was written to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, a copy of which was sent to the state commissioner of Police, Mr Olushola Amore, the incident must be investigated and culprits made to face justice.

"We have already written a letter of complaint to the Inspector General of Police over the issue and also to the state commissioner of Police.

"The letter of complaint is like a warning to remedy the situation within 21 days, or else we shall proceed the court. This is wrong and we must put a stop to all these. How can you explain a situation whereby a police man will beat up a federal official inside his office just because he (police) was in uniform?

"You don't go round to traumatise people, it is wrong and my client will ask for justice", he added.

The victim, Olufemi had earlier told National Pilot reporter that the letter was sent on Friday through a courier services to both the IG and commission of police.

Reacting to the issue, the state Police Public Relation commissioner, Ajayi Okasanmi told National Pilot that he is not aware about the incidence.

When contacted, the State Police commissioner, Olusola Amore said he is not aware about the incident and has not receive any letter to that effect (as at Sunday).

"Which Police station did they report the matter, and if it is not reported anywhere, how will i be aware. I have not received anything message from him or his lawyer, Amore added.

Recall that Oluwafemi in an interview with journalists in Ilorin last week, had narrated the incident which was led by a DSP, Mr Shola Gbadeyan, who assaulted him inside his office.
