10,000 police recruits begin training Dec. 31

The South-East States of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States got 923 constable slots out of the 7,500 constables engaged by the Police Service Commission.

The commission in a statement announcing the commencement of training for the 10,000 recruits on Thursday in Abuja, said the six states in the South-West were allocated 1,322 constable slots.

The breakdown shows that Lagos, Ondo and Osun got 652 constable slots, Oyo and Ekiti, 477 and Ogun, 193.

On the other hand, the three North-West states of Kaduna, Kano and Katsina states received 1,137 slots while Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi and Jigawa states were given 823 slots.

Kwara State and the Federal Capital Territory contributed 218 recruits, but Niger and Kogi states had 444 constables.

The PSC stated that the 10,000 successful applicants into the Nigeria Police Force would resume training on December 31, 2016 in various police colleges and training schools across the federation.

It stated that the decision was taken at its 18th plenary meeting, a statement by the PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani said.

It said the 500 recruited Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police would be trained for 12 months at the Police Staff College, Jos while the 500 Cadet Inspectors would be at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos for their 12 months training.

The commission stated that the 7,500 constables would be trained in police colleges located in their geopolitical zones, which would last for nine months.

"South West states of Lagos, Ondo and Osun, with a total of 652 recruited constables will be trained at the Police College, Ikeja while 477 others from Oyo and Ekiti States will be trained at the Police Training School, Ibadan. 193 recruited Constables from Ogun State will use the Police Training School, Iperu," the statement added.

The commission explained that all the 923 recruited constables from the South-East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo would be trained at the Police College Oji River, in Enugu State, while 481 recruits from Bauchi and Taraba states would be trained at the Police College, Bauchi.

The Police College Kaduna would host 1,137 recruits from three North-West states of Kaduna, Kano and Katsina, but the 823 recruits from Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi and Jigawa States would go to the Police Training School, Sokoto.

The Police Training School, Ilorin would host 218 recruits from Kwara state and FCT Abuja with Police Training School Minna hosting 444 recruits.
